I agree with covering your proverbial "@$$" against liability by making the
rules known. However, precedent has shown that the legal authority and
responsibility is with the person paying the bill or the executives of the
company paying the bill. This means that company email accounts, hosted on
company computers can be used (including covertly for internal company
purposes) as deemed necessary for company operations. The misuse of
computing resources is also the responsibility of the same entities (ie.in
the case of harassment) to take reasonable steps to prevent such use once
discovered.

That being said, in IMail, the technical solution eludes me. Does anyone
know how to do this for outbound mail?

Todd

We have had several clients take that position, however they must make
it a policy of the company that all incoming and outgoing mail from ALL
users is copied to a specific email address for review, that infractions
of using company email for personal use may be terms for dismissal,
restate the fact of disclosing company information to sources outside of
the company is terms for dismissal, and post this in numerous places
throughout the company. It is also a good idea to have all employees
sign a statement to that effect so that there are no misunderstandings.
They can also have it where the users can only email and receive email
on local users if the mail server is in-house.
