Let  me  say  that  I  think  this  is  a  great  idea  (4xx is a more
appropriate code for an app-level problem), and yet...

...this  is  pretty  aberrant  behavior  that I would suggest would be
something  to  fix  instead of waiting for Ipswitch to work around it.
Also...

...I don't have this issue, if I administratively stop and restart SQL
Server  (7.06  HF2).  If  you're seeing this, it could be part of your
interrelated connectivity/service stoppage problem.
