Actually there isn't a lot to address with this. It is a configuration issue in all the cases I have seen. If you have a backup (gateway) server between your IMail server and the world most will set the internal IMail server up to relay and/or treat the gateway as local by adding it to the Relay for Addresses and Hosts file. This is not necessary and is why it is getting through.
Let's follow this through mail received from [EMAIL PROTECTED] by the 1st Imail sever. Since it is set to relay (store & forward) for the iarna.co.uk domain it will accept it. Then it will do an rdeliver to the 2nd IMail server. It will be sent as [EMAIL PROTECTED] to the 2nd server. If this second server is not set to relay for the 1st server then it will not accept this message with the "not local host, not a gateway" error message. and will bounce. If the 2nd machine is set to relay for the first one then it will get through. In reality the test is cutting itself short as the message will eventually bounce or at least never get delivered. I have had luck proving this to the testing authority in ALL cases by showing the incoming machine is a gateway and in reality the message never gets through. Look at the rdeliver line on the 1st mail server (once it is configured correctly).
