Subject: [IMail Forum] IMail Server Drives Partitions Configuration

Our co-lo is forcing rack mount only and we are now planning replacement
IMAil server. The new server has 3x18GB SCSI. Our existing IMail server
is set-up...

1 HD C: = OS/Swap Partition
1 HD E: = IMail install, Spool, Logs, Mailboxes

*IMail to ODBC SQL7 (on dedicated RAID5 server).
*KWM images ported to separate IIS.

Searched archives and found Len recommended the following:

* system + proggies (but absolute minimum of proggies)
* swap (single, system-wide)
* imail spool/ dir
* mailbox/ dir
* more mailbox/

Len or anyone - the favor of reply on how to slice and dice the new
drives? I am thinking the following, but please tell me the error of my
ways...

C: Win2k Server OS (partition 4GB for Swap)
E: IMail install, Spool, Logs
F: Mailboxes

*IMail to ODBC SQL7 (on dedicated RAID5 server).
*KWM images ported to separate IIS.

Reading the archives I reviewed benefits using separate disks,
partitions, and Raid1 mirror. Not sure I got it all and how to best
spread across the 3 drives. This server processes about 2500 e-mails
daily, about 100 virtual domains, running Declude AV/JM. I also read
someone suggested 3.5GB partition for OS Swap and then another 3.5GB to
be left empty. However, did not indicate why. Anyone know benefit of
doing this? Thanks for any feedback.
