Generally,  in  order  to access external IPs from an internal subnet,
your  firewall  has  to  be  capable  of  doing  "loopback"  NAT. Some
enterprise-strength  firewalls  can't  do  this--the  cheaper ones are
actually more likely to.

This  is why one often sets up an internal DNS with private addresses,
and external DNS with public addresses.
