Hi; We just did such a thing. Definitely look into the KB articles on IPSwitch site.
Make sure that you are not changing your IP's. If you are then you definitely want to rethink your move .. You need to worry about several more things than just the move.. Like DNS propagation, etc. [dk] Same IP's, same hosts! If you are just making a new machine with the same IP and the same host names then: 1: Backup your registry- check KB article on this.. It is pretty detailed. 2: Install IMail on the new machine. 3: Create the new hosts 4: Import the registry into the new machine- this will recreate the users. If you have changed the mailbox directory or location then make sure to use a text editor and change the drive letters or location of the mailbox in the registry file. Then import it. [dk] - It will be the same path, and teh users will be created by hand again. So I assume backing up the registry is not needed. 5: STOP SMTP in the old machine- wait until the spool clears. This way you are not going to receive any new mail and it will go to your backup server or will force the connecting server to try again.. 6: Once the spool clears then move the mailboxes. This will make sure your users are not losing any email. If you are moving it using floppies or CD's then I recommend you Zip the files first so you don't mess up the permissions. On a CD permissions will become read only. Zipping them will ensure the permissions are not changing to READ ONLY. [dk] ok - I will zip the files, but it will just be a LAN transfer. 7: bring the new machine online- and you should now receive your new mail in the new machine. We just did this & moved our server to a new server with new IMail and new OS. It almost (& I underline almost) went smoothly.. Since we were changing our IP's we had a lot more to worry about.
