Thanks, Len. You just insulted a lot of people on this list. We're not incompetent b/c we don't run our own DNS, just not DNS experts (or have the $$). That does not mean that we don't know how to run a mail server. I like to think that makes us intelligent to know our limits (knowledge and $$) and find someone else to do it.

Where are the most probable spots for SMTP delivery failures? I would say, it order of strongest link: 1. ISPs SMTP gateway (very important to him, as is his DNS, must keep it running, must have skilled staff to run it, and it is probably NOT his mailbox server, but just an SMTP relay, so very simple comparatively) 2. The garden variety SME with his own mailserver. No competence in house in mail, smtp, dns, routing, mail is blackbox, "we hope it works". Probably shoots himself in his mail foot more often than all of Internet. 3. the rest of Internet So I'm sure relaying through 1. above will be the last cause of SMTP deliveries failures.
