I have tried the Hosts file...no glory

The result is the mail will sit in each server's queue until times out.
On exchange the error is unable to resolve [EMAIL PROTECTED]
On Imail the log file is below:

7:03 12:18 SMTP-(06B8005C) SMTP_DELIV_FAILED
07:03 12:18 SMTP-(06B8005C) >QUIT
07:03 12:18 SMTP-(06B8005C) rl-recv: connection aborted

Now, this is running behind a MS ISA firewall, but all external email domain
resolution works fine.

thanks for the responses folks!!

There's nothing magic here.

The first question is DNS. How do Exchange and IMail resolve
@recipient.domain for the other server's recipients?

The will each query DNS to find the MX for recipient.domain.

If you are on a RFC1918 net, and don't have private IP zone files, then you
can short-circuit DNS resolution with Windows hosts file:

ip.ad.re.ss exchange.domain # in Imail's hosts file

and

ip.ad.re.ss imail.domain # in Exchange's hosts file

The above are variables, you have to fill in the real IPs and domain names,
one line for every domain.
