When you have the DB as SQL and you add/edit a user in the Admin interface do the changes stay? Can you authenticate using a different client and not web messaging?
For some reason, when I first tried this and my permissions were messed up in SQL server it appeared to work in Administrator but never really commit the changes to the DB.
