Oh my god!!! What does it take to get any help around
here?? Please, can someone offer some advise on an
issue that I have? Re: (Post) Spam
being detected but still being delivered. Thank-you -----Original
Message----- I don't know why you keep
harping on this. A declude customer gave advice on how he would solve it.
Scot chipped in with both a solution using declude and the IMail manual page
where you could see how to do it with IMail's rules (I don't know how much more
fair he could be on that) -- the question asked is answered completely in the
IMail doc's, as it was one of the first anti-spam techniques they advised (many
versions ago). I will say that after
using IMail alone for most of a year, I was glad that others kept giving advice
on other solutions to problems, as we quickly outgrew IMail's ability to filter
messages (when the filter files get too big, they start arbitrarilty failing,
and ipswitch could not provide a definitive answer for "how big is too
big"). We got tired of splitting off new filter files to keep the
sizes down and tried declude -- our spam dropped significantly in the first
week and all the rules were eventually moved to declude. Except ONE --
the exact one the person asked about in this thread (although we hold, not
delete these). Now that IMail has added
more anti-spam abilities, it is more able to do things on its own (in fact, the
ability to use AND and OR in a rule is something that Declude cannot do).
But there are still limitations and sometimes another add-on is needed (and
note that declude products are considreed official add-ons, not competing
products). One example: someone wanted his main server to stop accepting
smtp requests when it backed up, to let the secondary start getting hamered
with sobig. Can't be done (apparently) with imail alone (and declude woud
be no help). Instead, another product is appropriate (and required in
this case). If only imail advice were to be offered (if this were just an
ipswitch support list, not a user forum), the person would not get any
help/advice on his problem. Karen -----Original
Message----- While
it's nice to hear about other products, it's important to still provide an
answer to the question of how to [insert problem] with Imail. A better
response might be to say that you "Follow [x] steps to complete the task
in Imail. However, you might like to know that the task is
easier/faster/better if you try [x] product.". A
repeated theme in the users who complain about hearing about Declude (for
example, nothing personal Scott) is that their initial problem with Imail has
not been resolved. With so many people having the same complaint, it must
have some validity and should be addressed. IMHO ~Amy -----Original
Message----- So let me get this straight. If someone asks a question, and the
best or alternative solution is a different product from someone other than
Ipswitch, it should not be mentioned on this list? Sorry, but I have never head of a list where you could only talk
about the vendors products and that other vendors products were never to be
mentioned. Advising of a solution is not advertising. The only one that can
advertise Declude is Declude. Anyone else mentioning it gets no payment for
doing so. We do it in an effort to help one other by sharing our experiences. John

For You www.eservicesforyou.com -----Original Message----- I couldn't agree more. Please advertise on the Declude
list. He was obviously looking for an answer with Imail as a solution,
not "Man, should I get Declude." Travis -----Original
Message----- Since no one will answer any questions I pose, I will take the
unpopular position and tell you IMail can function without declude. Putting this line in the rules.ima manually and restarting the
service or putting it in through the wizard would work. B~(name"message.exe"):NUL If you want it in a temp inspection bin, replace NUL with that
address Again, why Ipswitch has let this turn into the declude list is
amazing. -----Original
Message----- Yes if you use declude Virus -----Original
Message----- Is it possible to block this specific file from ever getting to
the end user? Thank you, Jeff Metcalfe [EMAIL PROTECTED] (727) 786-7955 |
