When that guy called me to complain, he said he was blocking my attempts to
hit his IP on his firewall. So, the question is, why was my mail server
constantly trying to connect, over and over, and over...

That is very strange:

> 10:03 08:54 SMTPD(0BB40074) [0.0.0.0] connect 66.95.93.235 port 3727

The SMTPD entries in the IMail log files indicate incoming SMTP connections. That line means that *his* computer was connecting to *yours*.

Most likely, the 10054 message is occurring because he has a firewall that is blocking the connection for some reason. He then sees the firewall logs, and thinks you are trying to connect to him (rather than him trying to connect to you). Given that the IP has a reverse DNS entry that includes "mail" in it, it sounds like their mailserver is trying to send you mail, and their firewall is blocking it.
