Thanks. I’ve certainly had much better luck w/ the SOHO router/firewalls from Netgear than Linksys. I think the Intel ones are probably overkill for what I’m doing w/Imail, though.

I'm going to disagree with Scott here and recommend Netgear as the inexpensive alternative. I believe their quality to be a notch above D-link and the others. Otherwise, I would highly recommend Intel. You'll have to spend some extra dinero, but I've always found them to be reliable, stable, compatible, and they even update the driver regularly.

If I could find the 3c905b anywhere I'd probably go w/that. But I'll try the D-link card first. "But boss, the geniuses in the Imail forum SWORE it would work!" heheh, just kidding. This is a home system handling email for me, my wife, and my kids.

The card I have is not Linksys (believe it or not ;)) but it is definitely in the "El Cheapo" make category. I seem to remember it being identified as a NC10/100 Fast Etherlink.

I'm wondering if it could be an issue w/the drives in the system or the IDE controllers. The last word at the end of the 3rd line of the BSOD is "hal.dll" and SCSIPORT.SYS shows up a couple of lines after that. But reading those BSODs has never been my strength...

This is an OLD box - pentium 200mmx w/96MB RAM 72-pin SIMMs, old SIS chipset, a WD 1.2gig boot/system drive, and a WD 850 MB (yes, MB) disk for drive D: where Imail is installed.

I reformatted it and reinstalled/repatched it a couple of days ago to see if a clean setup would solve the problem, but no go. $5 or $20 bucks for a NIC is more appealing than breaking down & getting a new box$.

I don't think there is such a beast. If I recall correctly, our mailserver
is using a D-Link card that cost $5 and was designed for home
networking. Why? Because the previous LAN card had serious problems, and
we had to replace it immediately -- yet that card did its job. That $5 LAN
card has flawlessly perfectly for several years now, having processed
millions of E-mails. I would not, however, recommend using a D-Link
card. Although well designed, a $5 LAN card isn't likely to be well
manufactured, meaning you could be lucky and get the one we did, or you may
get one that doesn't work for you.

My recommendation would just be to buy a card with a well-known name, that
costs at least $20. Stay away from low-end brands such as Neatgear,
Linksys, SOHO, D-Link. If you can avoid doing business with 3Com, I'd be
happy (they have proven to me that they have serious security problems in
their products), but the 3Com cards would probably do fine.

Note that reports of 10054 errors with a specific brand of LAN card can
normally be ignored. It would be very difficult for a LAN card to be the
cause of that problem.
