Apparently they have been troubleshooting this issue for a while, and
eventually found a bug in how it handles tabs in the host file, even
though that is the expected format of the file. They thought they might
have it fixed in 8.12.

Doesn't make much sense, but as soon as I replaced the tabs with spaces,
my smtp server service crashes went away completely. It was dying every
few minutes, and the monitor service didn't always restart it.

Question. How did you and Ipswitch come to this conclusion with the
removal of tabs in the hosts file? Curious, just trying to find out why
the removal of tabs in the hosts file would resolve this issue.

Thanks,
jim

We had lots of trouble with this same issue and after working with
IPSwitch
technical support, the problem was identified as being tabs in the hosts
file.

Try replacing any tabs in your hosts file with spaces and then bounce
the
SMTP server service.

Let us know if it clears up your problem. It did for us...

Subject: [IMail Forum] SMTPD32 - Stopping and Not restaring Automaticly

Hello,

I know this topic has been talked about many times before, but I'm
still
having an issue with Imail's SMTPD32.exe service stopping and not
automaticly restarting with out human intervention. The problem all
started
fall of 2003 when I upgraded from 8.04 to 8.05. Then I even tried
adding
the two hotfixes for 8.05, but the frequency of the SMTPD32 service
stopping
increased. Since it appeared I never had this problem with V8.04 I down
graded from V8.05 to V8.04. For a while that seem to fix the issue.
Then
the problem reared its ugly head again. I've tried things like,
disabling
all anti-spam features, taking out tabs in the HOSTS file, Defraging,
and
other things that don't come to mind. All of these things were
recommended
by Ipswitch, which I thought was still working on this issue.

NOW. My question is, has any one that has these same
symptoms/problems/issues, upgraded whether it's on the same server or a
new
server to version 8.11? If so, has the problems gone away? I'm at the
end
of my rope with this. Any comments, info, help would greatly be
appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim McCay
