If it doesn't reach an agreement with the CWA union this weekend, I have a
feeling that much of SBC will be "down". For those that haven't been
following it, the CWA voted to strike a couple of weeks ago. The deadline
for the strike ends this week, and it is very likely that there will be a
walk-out. The Communications Workers of America covers the majority of the
company's employees, but I am not absolutely certain it covers IT staff. It
does cover all of the people who work in the Central Offices, installers and
people who work on repairing broken lines (splicers) though. At best, they
are going to be very shorthanded until some sort of deal is struck. So,
don't be surprised if you see problems with SBC's network as of Sunday, and
certainly don't expect to be able to get through to anyone for help.
