Can anyone confirm that iMail rules that are set to !BOUNCE! are executed after the
smtp session, not durring? If no, I had better hop to and disable those rules!

NO NO NO

Please don't do this - all you're doing is making tons of junk mail to forged senders
that had nothing to do with the original
message. This is an awful practice. Just as bad as after-the-fact virus notifications
for the same reason. If you can't reject it
at the SMTP session you've got to just eat it and tell the recipient or silently
discard. Don't use the bounce setting on any
rules: you'll do more harm than good and help propogate the junk worse, and become a
backdoor relay by junk senders 'bouncing' mail
through you to other targets.

Both A, B, & C result in a lot of false positives. So what we've done
is for a few clients that want those enabled, we have an e-mail
automatically generated and sent back to the sender letting them know
that there e-mail was blocked by anti-spam and to contact the customer
to have there e-mail address white listed.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Poll: Which method do you use to verify if a
message is not spam?

I am trying to reduce the number of spam email that is reaching our firm

and decided to use at least one verification method.

I am not sure what methods out of the following three is safe to use:

A - Verify MAIL FROM address
B - Perform reverse DNS lookup for connecting server
C - Verify HELO/EHLO domain
D - Neither of them

What I mean under "safe" is, that results the least amount of false
positives.

I decided to do a poll in this group and at the end of the poll I will
share the result with all of you.

If you want to participate in this poll, just simply send an email to
the
following email address:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

and in the subject line of the message please indicate which valid email

verification you use out of the 4.

(this is just a temporary email account, that I created for this
purpose, I
will delete it at the end of this week, unless someone will come up with

other good ideas of doing a poll on.

To make my task easier, please write only the corresponding capital
letter(s) in the subject line, nothing else, and don't bother writing
anything in the body of the message because I will not bother opening
the
message.

Thanks,
Geza
