I don't understand the ramifications of turning of "Auto deny hack attempts"
but from Lens reply the recommendation is to turn of "Auto deny hack
attempts" is that a general consensus of opinion.

it better not!

a stupid little problem, this stupid option clicks in, and you have to 
intervene manually to stop/start the entire server to clear it.  brain-dead.
