Just spoke to customer support at Ipswitch and here is what she told me:

1. IMail will continue to be upgraded, both stand alone and ICS.
2. Currently IMail stand alone isn't available for purchase but it can be discussed and arrangements made case by case. She said this is where it stands right now but they are still evaluating and discussing options based on customer feedback.
3. Buy a SA now and it will be tacked on to the end of your current SA so you can save the $200.00 increase for another year. Our SA expires 05/05 but if we buy another now at the old price it will extend it until 05/06.

Not to happy about the size of the increase, but at least they're giving us a chance to hold off on paying the increase for another year if we buy now.

Mike

"the ability to download any updates that come along works for me"???
Where did he say anything about "updates". IMail is dead. There are
"known issues" even with the latest release that are very serious in my
opinion, but they've not been taken care of. What would lead you to
believe that Ipswitch is going to spend a single dollar on IMail? What
benefit would it be to Ipswitch to do so?

So you get your Service Agreement and call about a problem. You know what
answer you'll get from them? Upgrade to the latest version.

Best of luck!

I'm sticking with Imail.
The purchase of the service agreement, and the ability to download any
updates that come along works for me.

Well said Roger :) I was not looking forwards to changing either, but I
would just out of spite and still will if I feel the need!

It would be good if everyone posts their input on this. If enough people
are
going to bail anyway, it means that Ipswitch may be doomed or damaged at
a
minimum, and the %40 increase will be only covering lost revenue and not
going for better support and development. If this is the case we may want
to
look at our cost vs workload priorities and arrange them accordingly :)

I am lazy and cheap, but more lazy than cheap, so this will work for me.
I really didn't want to have to convert over to a new system.

Will the KWM templates also continue to be updated?

Dear IMail Customers,

The messaging market has changed since we introduced IMail almost 10
years
ago. Back then, SMTP and POP3 were most of what was needed in a
product.
Today, there is increasing demand for more comprehensive collaboration
solutions and the stand-alone messaging market is shrinking. That is
why
we
introduced Ipswitch Collaboration Suite as our messaging solution for
the
future.

In introducing ICS, though, we did not fully assess the impact on you,
our
customers. Many of you have written or called to tell us about that
impact. We have listened to what you had to say and decided on the
following actions:

1. IMail Server customers may continue to purchase Service Agreements
without upgrading to ICS. Since it is at the core of ICS, you can be
assured that we will continue to enhance and support IMail Server. As
of
December 1, Service Agreement prices will increase to $695 (from $495)
for
IMail Professional and to $375 (from $245) for IMail Small Business.

Note that anti-virus subscriptions will only be sold as part of ICS.
For
those who have AV, we believe the ICS value proposition is compelling.

As always, we strongly encourage all IMail users to keep current with
new
IMail releases. We do not believe that per-support-incident charges are
in
the best interests of the majority of our users, and will not adopt them
at
this time (but will continue to listen to your feedback).

2. Ipswitch Instant Messaging customers may also continue to purchase
Service Agreements. As of December 1, the Service Agreement price will
increase to $195 (from $99).

3. The December 31 deadline for cross-grade pricing to ICS has been
eliminated, so you have more time to plan. You may now make the move to
ICS
on your own schedule.

I am sure that many of you will have questions about your particular
circumstances, and I encourage you to talk to your Ipswitch or reseller
salesperson about the best path forward for you. I want to especially
thank
those of you who took the time to call us and explain your situations in
detail. We are pleased that we ended up opening a more direct channel
of
communications with all of you who wrote or called. Last week Bill
Pollack
sent an e-mail with management names and phone numbers; please always
feel
free to call us.

Sincerely,

Roger Greene President
