When I look at this list, one simple example comes to mind: Ubuntu.
That's not a bad thing, but it makes me suggest that instead of arguing
about what features should be in the CD, it would be better to just take
Ubuntu as an example FOR THE FEATURE SIDE OF THINGS.
Saying "give me something like Ubuntu" is not a sufficiently detailed
description on which to make decisions for constructing an actual
product. OpenSolaris is not the same as Linux, we may have to make some
different choices in various areas because of those differences, and so
you need reasonably detailed and prioritized requirements in order to
make the trade-offs that are likely to occur.
If the Indiana OpenSolaris CD can do what Ubuntu does than that's
enough. This doesn't mean it has to do everything the same way Ubuntu
does, I'm just talking about features here.
One person's perception of "what Ubuntu does" is quite likely to be
fairly different from the next person's. That's why it's important to
provide reasonably specific details on what things you think are
important to include, so that we ensure we're thinking of the same things.
