What's the actual problem you are trying to solve? Where are you
planning to get the bits from that you plan to put in that empty
boot environment?

Installing other distributions in parallel to OpenSolaris in the same pool,
e.g. Milax. Belenix, etc.

Also I would like this feature to reinstall for example a snapshot of the
rootfs which I saved on another medium.

Short answer: Right now there is no interface in beadm to allow
creating an empty boot environment.

Seriously? Can't this do the same thing?

Yes, beadm does not contain an interface for this nor are there any plans currently for adding one. What was asked was if you could create an empty BE using beadm and the answer to that is no that is not supported.

That doesn't mean you can't fake one up outside of beadm as suggested below however that's not a supported method for creating BE's. Plus the ability to do this will probably be impacted going forwad as more BE validation is added to beadm. We will likely not support BE's created outside beadm once that validation work is complete. (see bug 891)

If we adjust "mountpoint" and "canmount" property (using exsisting BE
as reference), import the content of another BE that supports the same
version of zpool/zfs (possibly from backup, or from a different
system), and edit grub menu, it should work, right?
