That's the "Magic Spacebar" (yes, it's a stupid name, but that's what they're marketing it as) http://library.gnome.org/users/evolution/stable/usage-mail-getnsend-read.html.en#b17rgdac (although it's Edit->Preferences->Mail Preferences in our version for some reason) I suppose the other thing I like with evolution, is that it feels like it fits in a bit more with the desktop.
