As the set of packages that are present on the live CD is a favorite topic of discussion among some of us, I thought I'd pass along one piece of "data" (quotes because the methodology here is unclear to me) that might provide some input. Those of you who like to harp on the email client choice will certainly find some fodder within.

Usually it's an online poll - where anyone is welcome to submit. Interesting to see Evolution at so low a %, though probably not surprising given the active work occurring in Thunderbird right now. I think the hard part is trying to figure out what consequences removing the GUI part of Evolution would make ie. which bits rely on e-d-s and what impact would that be to the user interface.

Sun also has somewhat of an obligation to provide an accessible desktop by default, which isn't really a consideration in such polls... I'm not sure how Thunderbird currently stacks up against Evolution on the a11y front, but it certainly used to lag somewhat.

If a user can successfully use the package manager and download the client of their choice I wonder if the introduction of IPS changes those limitations - I'd suspect it does.
