As far as I'm aware, you can do all of the above in Thunderbird.
I have all bug reports that arrive in my inbox get moved to a particular
folder. P1 bugs get coloured red, and run
"audioplay /usr/demo/SOUND/sounds/bark.au" and then get matched by the
more general bug filter. For urgent stuff, you could have it run
a /usr/bin/notify-send, grabbing your attention even more.
I checked Thunderbird just now, and couldn't see how to get it even run
an external command when a filter matches.
The external command thing does appear to be missing.
My primary grip with Evolution was the like of a keyboard shortcut to go
to the next unread message regardless of folder. I don't want to have
to use the mouse unless I have to when I need to navigate through a few
hundred or thousand emails :(
