Starting with snv_118, my laptop makes a very annoying screech when the
opensolaris login screen appears. Is there any way to turn this off?
This is likely a bug in the new boomer sound system driver.
Please file a bug in bugster about the audio issue, be certain to
include the output of /dev/sndstat.

Shawn,
I'm not quite sure what you mean by the output of /dev/sndstat.
Like this:
cat /dev/sndstat
SunOS Audio Framework
Audio Devices:
0: audiohd#0 onboard1, a (DUPLEX)
Mixers:
0: audiohd#0 onboard1, a
Realtek HD codec: ALC888
Builds 117+ have a new sound system, and it is possible that you are
using a new driver now for your sound card.

Thanks, Shawn. Here is the output:
SunOS Audio Framework
Audio Devices:
0: audiohd#0 Intel HD Audio, ICH8 (DUPLEX)
Mixers:
0: audiohd#0 Intel HD Audio, ICH8
Sigmatel HD codec: STAC9228X
I implemented Brian Ruthven's SoundOnLogin=false fix to get rid of the bell
when the login screen shows up, and after logged in I used xset to quiet
the system bell down. With these two fixes, the system is pleasant to work
with.
Thanks to everyone for your help.
I don't see a bug for your issue with the ICH8 chipset, so I'd suggest
opening one in bugster and including that output.
Be certain to mention you're using OpenSolaris 200x build 118 (as
opposed to SXCE) and that the same happened on build 117.
Cheers,
