Who never forgot to do a 'newaliases' or 'ndc reload' after a change in
a conf file ?
I think using Ldap is a solution to never have to deal with this kind of
stuff anymore.
You'll always have someone, maybe you, drunk at night, who will
add/change something directly in ldap. Of course, you'll not run the
script :)
I think building a script is simpler and faster, but if a patch can be
made, it's worth it :)
I'm too lame at C programming, and I don't have time for that. but if
someone can, I think it's a great feature to add.

yes, if the patch is good :)
