Ok, a little new info... They want a Kindle type interface which I can do using a touch screen netbook, and it must be in a text format so that it can be converted to audio. And just for fun, they want the books to be for the Accelerated Reader testing system. They don't want much do they? ________________________________ From: info-tech-ow...@aea8.k12.ia.us [mailto:info-tech-ow...@aea8.k12.ia.us] On Behalf Of Jackie Fonley Sent: Wednesday, April 22, 2009 10:03 AM To: info-tech@aea8.k12.ia.us Subject: Re: [info-tech] Books converted to Audio... I wasn't there . . . so if this isn't what was discussed I apologize. We've had great luck (esp. at the upper level) with Lit2Go --downloadable audio files (that will import into your iTunes) and finding chapters/books for download. Following are the sites Donna had sent after the meeting--I've had experience with some of these regarding audio files of books for students to listen to. I would also recommend contacting the publisher(s) of any textbooks you have, as many of those now come with audio CDs of all the text. For those additional items we need . . . we've been using GarageBand to record things. FWIW ****** I am passing along these websites as requested yesterday at the tech coordinators meeting. Please share these with teachers. http://matnonline.pbwiki.com/Accessible+Books+and+E-Texts - List of many reading websites on the intenet http://www.bookadventure.org/ www.nypl.org click on digital collections, then click on tumble books on left hand side. This site reads different level books to the student. It will highlight the words as it reads it to you. http://www.storylineonline.net/index2.html www.tarheelreader.org http://www.literactive..com/Home/index.asp www.accessiblebookcollection.org This site has 900 boardmaker books already created for you. Including quizes, etc for upper level kids. Books like Amelia Bedelia. http://www.baltimorecityschools.org/BoardMaker/adapted_library.asp On Apr 22, 2009, at 9:54 AM, McKenney, Kurt wrote: I can't remember the sources for converting books to audio or text format that were mentioned at the tech meeting the month before last, and we are needing materials for several students. I have been told that no student qualifies for the state resources for these conversions in Iowa, I don't know how true that is, but I am in a hurry to get some sources. Help.
