I too have come to the conclusion that it's not how the disks are burned. Since I found the S8 06/00 CD's and coudln't use any of them there seems to be something wrong in the box, and more likely in the drive. It just doesn't make any sense how both drives from such different era computers could have the same exact problem. Or a third drive from a totally different machine could too. That tells me to suspect the controller or the OBP software. But the controller interacts with the HD's fine.
