I think that I got most of my thoughts aired in the "Solaris Installation Strategy" thread. Perhaps that question was supposed to be aimed at Greg? The one thing that I think that I forgot to mention was the need for a mechanism to turn a legacy release (e.g. Solaris 9) into a Solaris zone. I'm not talking BrandZ... let's not start that thread again. :) In VMware world, P2V is a very important tool with astounding ROI. Solaris needs a tool like that. Using existing tools as a base (possibly wrong strategy), I would see the process to go something like this: Create a flash archive of the old crusty server sol8# flarcreate ... /path/to/flar Create a whole root zone sol10# zonecfg -z legacy ... Apply the flash archive to the zone. The -u option says to do an upgrade at the same time. sol10# zoneadm -z legacy flash -u /path/to/flar Icing on the cake would be to then have tools to modify inherit-pkg-dir attributes after a zone is populated. This "icing" would likely be a convesation for zone-discuss, not limited to the install/upgrade problem. Mike -- Mike Gerdts http://mgerdts.blogspot.com/
