I was suggesting you set this up as a lab test with a spare temp probe. What model device is it? (I think you mentioned the brand in your original message, but that's scrolled out of my inbox).

The probe is 300 miles from the server. I will consider getting a server in
that closet, but the reason that the probe is there, is that it's a remote,
unattended locaiton.

   At times like these, I like to simplify the problem. Can you connect a
probe directly to an Intermapper server with no intervening devices or other
traffic? Perhaps the problem is with the temperature probe's SNMP stack? I
know some early APC SNMP environmental probes (the MeasureUPS) would die if
pinged or queired too frequently.

Yes, I thought just as you did, but increasing the time, seems to
increase the timeout. Odd.

So it _is_ timing out, apparently, which means the command did not
complete in the alloted time and no response code was received. As you
know, you can increase the timeout for the probe. I'm seem to recall
you saying that it didn't help when you tried it before, though?
