Thanks to everyone who participated in the discussion of this issue.
We have identified a bug in that accounts for at
least some significant portion of the
manifestations of the the reason string being
obscured, and we are expecting to fix that before
the final release of 4.5, probably before the
next beta release.
Beyond that, we have taken note of the many
suggestions for ways to address the problem, have
added a few of our own, and will work out the
best way to handle it, taking into account the
needs of all our users. Because this will require
some deliberation, and because we are so far
along the path to the release of 4.5, any changes
in behavior we might make will not be in 4.5, but
in some future version.
