Actually, we dont name our routers and switches here. I find it much
easier to tell where something is based on its IP. The 3rd octet tells me
of the subnet, and the 4th tells me what the device actually is. I'd
imagine that you'd find both schools of thought. Not quite sure what
constitutes a "Large" network. We're a fairly small college, only about 18
routers, 300 switches, and another 250+ wireless access points.
But for those who do use names, yes, it should definitely be an option.
