We are interested in the layer 2 functionality of this product, so we are
trying out this beta but have been having some issues.
I have manually created a map featuring several switches and enabled the layer 2 mapping.
At first, after a few minutes, the switches connected to their neighboring switches with
no problems. Then when i tried to add another switch later in the day it would not
automatically connect to the proper switch. I also noticed the layer 2 page does not list
the newly added switch and the last "refresh" time on the bottom right seems to
be several days ago.
I have fixed a number of cases in 5.4b3 where the L2 engine throws an
exception (i.e. fails) when computing where devices are connected. It
sounds like this started happening after you added the last switch. The
main symptom is that the timestamp in the lower right of the L2 view
stops updating.
Please file a bug report and include the switches.log file, so I can
find and fix the bug you are seeing. If you look at the switches.log
file yourself, you will likely see exactly where the failure occurs by
searching for the work "exception". It's difficult for me to fix it
without this information.
The easiest way to file a bug report is to use the built-in bug
reporter. Click the "bug" button in header of any map window in the beta
version (the bug button only appears in beta versions). Under the Logs
tab, you can include the "switches.log" file and the "switches.sqlite3"
file. If you want to file a bug report by email, the switches.log and
switches.sqlite3 files are located in the InterMapper Settings directory
at "Extensions/com.dartware.switches".
Is there anyway to force a layer 2 update? It seems like it only worked for the
switches I had on the page when I enabled the layer 2 mapping.
My guess is that the L2 update is actually failing due to the data in
your database. Sending the log will tell me for sure. You can erase the
L2 database by typing "#erase" into the search field. This is only a
temporary fix -- the underlying problem is a bug that I would like to fix.
