Dartware, I agree that it would be extremely useful and a huge time savings to be able to perform a global search for IP or MAC address. I'd also love to see the 'Reports' features support a quick way to do this type of search, scheduled report, or automatic reporting of a device we're waiting to see active on the network. With nearly 300 switches, it can turn into quite a task to do manually!
Scenario 1: A device that's active and causing a problem on the network needs to be found quickly and disconnected. A live global find could make simple work of this. Scenario 2: A device that caused a problem (disrupted traffic or downloaded copyrighted material) or is lost/stolen is not currently active, but we need to know if and when it becomes active. Perhaps a live probe could query the database and activate a notifier when the MAC address becomes active. Scenario 3: IMFlows could likewise become invaluable (actually viable for us) if it could alert us when various types of traffic or traffic patterns become active, such as attack or bittorrent traffic. Source/destination IPs, MAC, and switch port locations would be what we'd want to see. If InterMapper could handle any of these scenarios, it would be invaluable to many more people here at our college and help ensure that it gets top priority for funding Thanks in advance to the wonderful programmers at Dartware for considering this! (which has been running great since the #erase after entering a 3750) Here is our scenario... Currently I have this beta running on one of our smaller flat networks spread across quite a few different buildings. To make our map "user friendly" ive created individual maps for each building and dropped those maps into an overview map page. When i go into each "buildings" submap, i can easily see all layer 2 info and seach by ip, mac etc without any problems. My question is... is it possible to search all the layer 2 information for all maps/submaps from one location? Occassionally our security group will ask us where a computer is located and only provide us with a mac or ip (trickier to find since its a flat network), it would be handy if we could just search from the "overview" map and find which submap it is located on. I've tried searching the forums for this and found nothing, my applogies if its already been answered. Hopefully that makes sense!
