Ok, I have mine that is behind the firewall working now with external
users. I had to set up a new DNS entry so that the external IP for
that DNS entry matched exactly my first firewall IP. Then I routed
that ip to the 1st internal ip on the IM server.

I never could make it work any other way because the internal IP would
try to route to the wrong external IP on the data back.

But that lets me have external users talking to external users and all
functions working just fine. And I tested that for external with no
firewall and external with firewall.

However, this does not let me use the IMAIL database period because I
don't have my IP mail domains coming in that way from the outside.

Now for internal on the IM network the best I can do is add an entry
to the HOSTS file on a workstation so that it resolves my external DNS
to the first internal IP of the IM server. This lets me log in the
internal user from that workstation and send messages to an external
user. BUT the INTERNAL user cannot see what he is typing. The external
user does receive the messages and can send replies and the internal
user can see those messages.

So not perfect - but a lot of progress for me.
