RPL networks consists of leafs and routers. Both typically act as hosts. Routers are just hosts that happen to be between other nodes. (Although, some hosts are too weak to be routers) Little to no traffic on the RPL is unaware of which RPLinstanceID to use, because the applications there needs to send using a specific set of constraints, which is encapsulated into the RPLinstanceID. For ignorant applications, the OS may well be able to set the instanceID. In other cases, an instanceID of zero may be most correct. There may be some cases where there are ordinary hosts which are on a network which is not RPL, but is connected to an RPL network. (The group does not have any consensus if these will be layer-2 bridged, or layer-3 routed yet). In these cases the application either will be aware, or won't care. - -- ] He who is tired of Weird Al is tired of life! | firewalls [ ] Michael Richardson, Sandelman Software Works, Ottawa, ON |net architect[ ] m...@sandelman.ottawa.on.ca http://www.sandelman.ottawa.on.ca/ |device driver[ Kyoto Plus: watch the video <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzx1ycLXQSE> then sign the petition. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Finger me for keys iQEVAwUBTGF+FoCLcPvd0N1lAQIg3wgAvbvI14OA+2U55Yvq+rfJCLkxWArxDz1r ehRUog5MQSVmx4u0QKz71g4PhKLIUTrVmf/8rffSLGjaw7VrEjPR6yNSNO4FFBcY jTx/ShrN2e51SNTL0w0tg7qU8JdJs9wfVifGTcNmEg4IfWePXG802EUiq8liPInU WCbKMEflZ9W5PMRbsELxV7uGTi24QL+Eb8bs9xYpeFKd08RKaxho0dfBGikYZNDt 1oDrHxAKd7WCn0z2mhE/GLuexn29axO0GGJn6uKsYa2obSL9vm0CiRt4cw6xNsIa ye+OiN4rEJ2nNi7FaGAD3OqNnU8SSZserrhdQK577l33cu3PwrMYOw== =HL+W -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -------------------------------------------------------------------- IETF IPv6 working group mailing list ipv6@ietf.org Administrative Requests: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/ipv6 --------------------------------------------------------------------
