----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on Irish Fencing Forum
----------------------------------------------------------- From: Awesome_Marcos1 Message 13 in Discussion good grief but unlike some I'll stand-up and be counted in an environment where the IAFF have limited resources we have to put money where we think it will give the most benefit to the sport. We therefore follow the strategy we have developed when it comes to priorities for investment (and you can find the strategy set out in the Chairman's report of my annual account on the iaff website) the irish open is an important event which we want to make as succesful as possible, but this has to be tempered with concerns for safety - thus we have to insist on full equipment being worn. of course, many 1st year fencers won;t have breeches - in the past they would have borrowed equipment from the university clubs, and this has to continue as the policy. The federation can't sell breeches in the same way as we have done with plastrons or gloves - we don't have the expertise as retailers and it would tie-up too much capital. so could we give the clubs money to subsidise them buying equipment? unfortunately not - we need the money for other priorities - for instance, we have recently agreed a package that would help new clubs being opened at DCU and the Royal College of Surgeons in a similar way to the help given to Galway. If individual clubs find they have a specific need (for instance changeing boxes to the new timeings) they should approach the federation for assistance But when it comes to things like breeches clubs should encourage individuals to get their own equipment (xmas is on the way). the federation is trying to grow the sport, and we'll try to help and give advice, but we're not (because we can't) going to ferry you to tournaments and kit you up - personal responsibility is the strongest characteristic of a succesful fencer. ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/IrishFencingForum/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
