does nobody else see the wearing tracksuit bottoms at the federations flagship
competition to be a problem? i totally agree with the breeches rule. they are
compulsory for a reason. imagine an epee fight, fencer does for a leg hit,
blade breaks, other fencer is wearing tracksuit bottoms, one nasty wound. i
dunno, but would this leave the fed open to legal action? since they should be
making everyone wear breeches? ok, owen and eoin, i see your point, but
realistically, what is the furthest a 1st year fencer can expect to get at the
open? the second round? at comps like the welsh open, the year i went anyway,
there was nobody fencing without breeches. why should the open be any
different? also, we are trying to attract foreign fencers over. if i was
considering a competition abroad and i found out that there would be 15+
fencers there without the minimum standard of safety equipment, it would lead
me to think, perhaps unfairly, that the standard wouldn't be very high, and i
probably wouldn't shell out 250+ yoyos to go... i do share your pain tho
owen, perhaps if all the colleges grouped together we would be able to
negotiate a discount from one of the manufacturers?? maybe we could look into
this...
