Another interesting thought: If in addition to counting all the KVs older than
the readpoint I also count all versions of the KVs seen so far we can use this
for "memstore compactions". I.e. each memstore change would be an upsert that
would add the new KVs and then remove all KVs that not be flushed to disk
anyway.
