David: I think we first need to make sure all existing tests pass (currently
many are ignored) and then port over all recent master changes to this branch
and then assess the stability before taking the plunge.
Once that happens, we still can't be sure of any regression or instability and
one way to defend against that could be that we do an early access alpha
release from this branch itself to prove that this branch is stable enough when
used in some real world situations and only then merge upstream (master). We
did an alpha release around 4.0.
