Noble Paul commented on SOLR-14636:
-----------------------------------

{quote}but lets celebrate a tremendous milestone and have it somehow get in the
hands of Solr users everywhere;

[~dsmiley] I see your concerns and they are totally valid. I also see the
direction from where [~markrmiller] is coming. Mark's branch is his attempt to
improve the performance/stability of Solr and he should leave no stones
unturned to make it possible.

It is probably not wise for us to make all of these changes to land in
master/8x because we may inadvertently introduce bugs.

Here are my 2 cents
 * Let [~markrmil...@gmail.com] do his best and make his branch and achieve his
goal of achieving performance & stability in HIS branch. Let's not interrupt
him while he is trying to achieve that
 * It is probably premature to merge all Mark's changes to our master right
away. But it is also not a good idea to prevent Solr users from getting access
to the goodness of this and give early feedback as to what is the good/bad/ugly
in that
 * Once Mark believes his branch is stable enough, let's do an early access/
alpha release for users to test it out. This will help us uncover any potential
bugs/issues in that branch
 * Let's fix the user reported issues in that branch and iterate till we get to
a point where we are comfortable with that branch & we can pull those changes
into master
