This is technically easy to do. Actually, it could be a viable and simpler
alternative - it doesn't require passwords and makes the upload process more
explicit. I've used it in the past to speed up Sonatype uploads too (because
oss nexus was pretty slow). Up to you, Jan. I can tweak the code to prepare
such a bundle instead of the artifact folder.
