Thanks for the update. I think we should start thinking about iText 3.0; a redesign without API restrictions. This wasn't possible in the past, because iText was a project with only a handful of small developers, not backed by any company. Recently, a company was started (iText Software LLC) and once sufficient revenue is generated, we could invest in maintaining two branches: an iText 2.x branch and a new iText 3.x.
