Yes, I tried again, and that what I get now as well (at least in strings 
ivtv.ko, because the machine in question is busy recording at the moment and 
not available).

Got it. Now I have to install gcc on the machine in question and as a 
consequence it insists on upgrading glibc which I find kind of scary, because 
I don't want to upgrade _anything_ because it works _now_. But ok, I've got a 
backup so I'll be brave.
(Yes I tried to build on fc6 but that binary wouldn't run on fc3, not really 
surprising).
I'll get back with some results later, hopefully.
