4K-stacks is an option in the kernel when you compile it. I think it
also got backported to 2.4 so both 2.4 and 2.6 are "affected".

4KSTACK has nothing to do with Gentoo. Even more, I think Gentoo-users
are more likely not to be affected as with a regular
Gentoo-installation, you have to compile your kernel yourself.
Most users I've seen that have problems are Fedora users as the
default kernel in Fedora uses 4K-stacks.

So it really doesn't matter which distro you are running; as long as
your kernel isn't compiled with 4K-stacks (by distro or by yourself),
you'll not be affected by this.
Initially I tried the 0.3.2x drivers for my PVR-150 with 4K-stacks and
it paniced. Since I went back to 8K-stacks, the driver's been running
stable.
