I had problems with type 50 on a stock 2.6.10. I had to apply the third kraxel (v4l) patch to get it to work without a high-pitched screech. (Or you can upgrade to 2.6.11)
I upgraded to 2.6.11 and I'm still getting the high-pitched screech :-/ At least the tuner sound is louder now. I tried both ivtv's tuner and the kernel's tuner with no change.
