Hello,

I have read many threads dealing with the ‘tinny audio’ issue when using the PVR 500 and ivtv.  While I am glad to report that issuing a `ivtvctl –d /dev/videoN (where X = 0 or 1) –q 0` does work to clear up the problem, it does not always work.

Many threads I read seem to indicate that issuing that command seems to act as a toggle and only needed once, but this has not been my experience.

For example, I might issue that command 5 times, and I might note an improvement on the first attempt, or the second or the fifth, with no way of determining which will actually work.  I was only able to use the ivtvctl as a toggle once.  Only once did I turn off and on the tinny audio by issuing that command with any regularity.  I restarted mythfrontend, and was back to the random issue I seem to be having.  Also, once I do clear up the tinny audio, it seems to stick, until I change the channel.  Sometimes I can change the channel 5 times before the tinny audio returns, sometimes it returns even sooner.  I have checked, and I am using either video1 or video0 during the entire test…so its not like I am switching tuners and experiencing the problem.

Given the apparent randomness, there is no way I script a solution…does anyone have any similar tales or (even better) a solution?  Is there more information I should be posting?  I am running Ubuntu 2.6.12, and ivtv 0.4.5 (was happening with 0.4.4, but I saw the release notes for 0.4.5 and they claimed to have improved the tinny audio problem)

Thanks in advance for any insight someone may be able to provide.

John
