Now that I've done some testing I think it's a timing issue that does not occur when references are added one at a time with key words, but only when multiple entries without key words are to be edited. If I do one row, wait a while, then double click on a different row up pops the entry window. So, adding a row and opening the entry window to add key words works OK. When adding multiple references without key words the trick is to not close the entry window after the first one but to click on another row. This changes the entry window to the new row and all is well. Or, close the window, do something else, then go to a different row. In any case I don't think it is worth more of anyone's time because it can be finessed or avoided once one knows how to work the application.
