If I'm understanding this correctly (you are importing a number of entries,
then opening the entry editor sequentially for the entries and modifying
the keywords field in the General tab), this is a perfectly normal way of
using JabRef, and is definitely supposed to work fine.
To rule out any double-clicking issues, could you try to do the same, only
selecting the row and using Ctrl-E to open the entry editor instead of
double-clicking?
