Hi Ritchie,

Maybe not to test this lib. But now I'm working on an i2c lib that
interfaces to an eeprom. I use serial_hardware to show what is going
on, so you can verify if all goes as expected.

True.
>From a previous post I got the impression that you needed to adapt the
lib to use it in 4-bit mode. If that would be the case, it would have
been worth while to dig into that. But since you have not tried this
(and my impression was wrong), I bet it works out of the box. So
forget it.

Too bad. i2c is great: interface pretty fast to lots of devices with
only 2 pins.

I see the interface is SPI. In that case, it would be appropriate to
build it on top of an SPI lib.
Stef has an spi_hardware lib (see
http://oase.uci.kun.nl/~mientki/pic-tools/jal/libs2/auto_lib_overview.html)
and a software lib should not be too dificult (but can be created
later if it turns out not to exist.

If you have 10 displays, 9 of them are hd44780 compatible and that
explains why lcd seems to mean 'hd44780 compatible'.

What I do not like is that all kind of similar libraries that provide
the same function and hardly are used at the same time, use different
function names.
So at least for char-based LCD libs, i'd suggest to use the same
function names. In that case, you can switch LCD type, just by
changing the include statement.
And yes, I vote for renaming lcd.jal to lcd_hd44780.jal.
Eur, others, your votes please!

Joep
