If deployment is still going to be an issue, does anyone know if there are any alternatives? I looked at JOGL, which runs nicely on OS X, but not on Windows -- too many of the drivers included with Windows only support Direct3D. (Sure, you can usually get OpenGL-accelerated drivers from the manufacturer, but that's not exactly seamless either.)
I have not seen this to be a problem with OpenGL. All windows boxes for the last 3-4 years have had good OpenGL drivers, even the laptops. What windows boxes have you seen that don't come with openGL drivers installed?
