This is silly. Majority of flying is done by a self-selected group of people (almost no one has to fly to work), unlike driving, which in places like the US is done by the general public out of necessity. However, the statistics that state that flying is safer than driving take into account the general public as passengers on airplanes flown by professional pilots working for a strictly regulated industry. Of course that's safer! Maybe we should instead compare relative safety of taking a bus to boarding a commercial flight. But that wouldn't tell us anything about how the general public does in terms of acquiring skills for driving vs flying...
